Trincity Community Centre Opens

The Ministry of Sport and Community Development officially opened its 58th Community Centre in Trincity on Wednesday.

The opening of the Centre is a crucial part of the Government’s wider vision to continue its ongoing transformation efforts in Trincity/Maloney.

At the opening of the Trincity Community Centre, Attorney General Camille Robinson-Regis used the opportunity to highlight other improvements in the constituency.

“We have been building infrastructure that makes a difference to people. We have fortified communities with projects like the Nicholas Garden retaining wall, Penguin Crescent retaining wall, and the Hindustan Trace infrastructure which is now preventing flooding in that area. But we are not stopping there. We will be doing upgrades to the Maloney Mall, to the outdoor sporting complex, and to the Red Hill Community Centre.”

The facility includes a fully equipped gym, a modern ICT Centre with virtual learning spaces, and teaching kitchens for culinary training.

Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, highlighted the importance of community involvement in making the Centre a success.

“It is a space now with audio-visual equipment that is top-notch. It is a world-class facility. We have teaching kitchens so you can have culinary classes and so on to partner with YTEPP and CCC. We have gyms now in your Community Centre. Yes, this space, this Community Centre, now has a gym. And yes, it is for the use of the people in the Community Centre.”

Minister of Digital Transformation, Hassel Bacchus, said the Community Centre is also now home to the nation’s 20th ICT Access Centre, a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, and local Village Councils.

“But these Access Centres are built not just in places where you may or may not have problems with connectivity, but it is also to support people who have issues with devices, people who may not have computers, people who may be scared of technology, people who just want to learn something, or people who want to be mentored.”

Trincity’s ICT Access Centre joins a growing network that includes locations in Belmont, Carenage, Guayaguayare, Maraval, Penal, Todd’s Road, and Waterloo, among others. In the coming days, additional centres are set to open in La Brea, Arima, and San Fernando.
