As the nation looks forward to a bumper Carnival week, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Gold Commander for Carnival 2025, Richard Smith, confirmed that no major incidents had been reported at the many events held so far this season.
He assured that security remains in place for the safety of partygoers and highlighted the special arrangements for Saturday’s National Calypso Monarch Semi Finals at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
“All security arrangements are in place. Gates will be open at 7AM. You will see me there. I will be ensuring that all security arrangements are in place at that location. We still have the no firearms policy in place for all these NCC events. So no firearms. They also advised me that no glass bottles at that event as well. Only the authorised persons will be allowed to have these glass bottles. We know that persons set up camp there and they would have their stoves and all these other things. There’s no problem with the large-size coolers at that event. However, open flames? No, no. We do not want any open flames at that events.”
