The Police Service is assuring the Hindu community and the public that the necessary safety and security measures will be in ‘full effect’ during Divali festivities
In a media release on Sunday, Acting Commissioner of Police Mc Donald Jacob said while the country is in the season of light, there are some still bent on pursuing darkness.
However he gave all assurance that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is ready and prepared to maintain law and order.
The Acting Police Commissioner noted that this year’s festivities hold great significance and meaning to the Hindu community following two years or somewhat muted Divali celebrations and vowed the TTPS will be ‘highly visible’.
He added that Divisional Commanders have been tasked to heighten patrols, which acts as a deterrent to criminal activity.
Commissioner Jacob said while it is impossible to be everywhere all the time, the TTPS has been using the ‘Active Direct Patrol Grid System’ which has been successful in apprehending suspects, along with the seizure of narcotics and illegal firearms.
Throughout the long weekend, he said the TTPS has applied its intelligence data to guide specific strategies which are being implemented to mitigate criminal activity throughout the country.
