TTPS: “Zero Tolerance” This Easter

Drivers will face a “zero tolerance” approach by Police this week and into the holiday weekend. As fresh appeals are made by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) for drivers to exercise greater care and caution on the nation’s roads.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch’s Senior Superintendent, Wayne Mystar, warned that his officers will be out in full force. He stated that special emphasis will be placed on the offences of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and speed enforcement. Data from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch Roadway Surveillance Unit stated that road traffic deaths have increased by 25% in 2022 with 30 persons losing their lives, compared to twenty for the same period last year.

In the wee hours of Saturday morning, two separate road traffic accidents proved fatal, claiming the lives of two persons.
