This country’s junior athletes have experienced another major setback in their fledgling careers with the National Association of Athletics Administration announcing the withdrawal of Team TTO from the NACAC Age Group Championships in Nicaragua.
The team was scheduled to leave Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday for the Under-13 and Under-15 championships scheduled for December 17th and 18th.
The NAAA revealed that officials had been unable to secure a connecting flight from Panama to the host country and alternate arrangements posed potential significant risks to the contingent.
T&T is the defending team champion – a title secured at the last edition held in 2019.
The release noted that the NAAA considered Covid-19 infection spikes and the risks associated with a ‘long and circuitous travel itinerary’ before making the decision.
