Local Climate Impact Scientist Dr. Shobha Maharaj is calling for there to be better communication between scientists and policy makers in the Caribbean.
Speaking among a panel of experts on Small Island Developing States at COP27, Dr. Maharaj pointed to communications gaps that exists. She said although certain climate model data would be developed, there needs to be a more consistent and efficient approach to ensure Government agencies and policymakers understand that data.
Dr. Maharaj also noted shortcomings to better preserve the environment, which included the use of outdated climate model data being used in the region.
Dr. Maharaj presented the UN Intergovernmental Panel’s 6th Assessment Report on Climate Change, where UWI Professor in Urban and Regional Planning, Dr. Michelle Mycoo was the Coordinating Lead Author.
