Uptick In Fatal Police-Involved Shootings

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has noticed an increase in fatal police-involved shootings.

Confirmation came from Public Information Officer, Inspector Michelle Lewis, after Director of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA), David West, gave a breakdown of the increasing number of fatal police shootings from 2019 – 2022 during a talk show over the weekend.

At Thursday’s Weekly Police Media Briefing, the Inspector was questioned about the increase.

She said the TTPS continues its sensitization efforts with officers in relation to the Use of Force Policy.
