The US Embassy Port of Spain has donated a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine valued at US$52,928 to the Ministry of Health of Trinidad and Tobago.
U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Shante Moore handed over the machine this morning to the Ministry of Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, at the Trinidad Public Health Laboratory, Federation Park, St. Clair.
“This donation is the realisation of a commitment we made last year. It supports Trinidad and Tobago’s fight against COVID-19 and strengthens the region’s response through the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA). The Biden-Harris Administration recognises that COVID-19 is a global challenge that requires a global response,” said Chargé d’Affaires Moore.
He added, “The Ministry of Health has been doing great work to lead Trinidad and Tobago out of the pandemic. Trinidad and Tobago can continue to count on the United States to be a key partner in our joint efforts to protect the health and safety of our citizens, whether combatting the pandemic or working together in other areas of mutual interest.”
During the pandemic, the United States has donated approximately US$2.5 million worth of equipment and other resources to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to help in the fight against this deadly disease.
