High Frequency Entertainment is the entity working along with the Tobago Festivals Commission in securing the booking for reggae artiste Buju Banton, who is carded to perform at the Tobago Rhythm and Soul Festival in April.
This was revealed to TTT News by the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Kern Cowan.
On Monday, the Minority Council of the Tobago House of Assembly publicly expressed concern about the alleged failure of the Tourism Secretary to disclose information on who they described as “the promoter” partnering with the Tobago Festivals Commission (TFCL) for the Tobago Rhythm and Soul Festival.
Speaking with TTT News, Mr. Cowan explained that High Frequency Entertainment Company presented a proposal to the TFCL regarding the booking of Buju Banton for the event.
He indicated that the Commission accepted the proposal, and High Frequency serves as the booking agent for the reggae artist, rather than a promoter for the event.
Mr. Cowan said as a result of the arrangement with the booking agent, it will cost the THA US$225,000 for Buju Banton’s performance.
Mr. Cowan stressed that, contrary to statements, $9.3 million is not being released to the private company for the hosting of the event but said this is the cost for the entire three-day Festival. He explained that the Festival is being managed by the Commission with plans for development into a public-private partnership in the future.
The TFCL’s CEO emphasised that the Festival aims to boost the island’s economy, as he noted Tobago’s service providers would be the first option in procuring services for the event.
