WASA Update On Water Shortage In North Trinidad

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) said certain areas such as the high points of St Joseph, Champ Fleurs, Mt Dor, Santa Cruz, POS, ST ANNS, MARAVAL, HOLOLO and St James will continue without a pipe-borne water supply until the ongoing repair works at the Caroni Treatment Plant are ready for full transmission.

This from WASA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Romain during a press conference this morning. He said as it stands there’s a thirty percent supply to low-lying areas.

Mr Romain said repairs to the 48 inch main which ruptured days ago were completed on Thursday, however as the works entailed casting of the pipe-line it requires time to cure properly, thus the slow transmission of water to low elevated areas and disruption to higher elevated areas.

Asked on the expected time period for full restoration to the affected areas, the Acting CEO was unable to say.
