West Indies Out T20 World Cup

The West Indies are out of the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after they were soundly beaten by Ireland in the final match of the qualification stage.

Needing to win following an earlier loss to Scotland and a narrow victory over Zimbabwe, Captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to bat first as they got to 146 for 5 in their 20 overs – Brandon King top scoring with 62, while Johnson Charles made 24.

The West Indies bowling attack was hammered in the reply as the Irish reached the target in 17.3 overs for the loss of just one wicket. Paul Stirling was 66 not out at the top of the order. He was well supported by Lorcan Tucker and Captain Andy Balbirnie who made 45 and 37 respectively to propel Ireland to the 9-wicket win.
