Big victories were on the cards today for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup as three matches unfolded across two nations.
In Antigua, England defeated South Africa by 6 wickets in the first match of the Super League. South Africa were led by their talisman batsman Dewald Brevis getting 97 but lacked support as the proteas got to 209 all out. England in response seemed to be in a hurry, racing to 212 for 4 in 31.2 overs. Jacob Bethel smashing 88 off 42 in the English run chase.
Closer to home at the Queen’s Park Oval, Zimbabwe got the better of Scotland in Plate Quarter Final 3. Batting first, Zimbabwe scored a competitive 248 all out with 78 from Mathew Welch. Chasing 249 for victory, the Scottish were skittled out for 140 in 39 overs.
Meanwhile, hosts the West Indies got into the Semi Finals of the plate round of matches after a triumph over Papua New Guinea by 196 runs.
Batting first, the Windies tallied 317 for 6 at Diego Martin, thanks to Matthew Nandu’s 128. Responding, PNG only managed 148 all out in 37.4 overs.
The young Windies next take on the UAE on Friday at the Queen’s Park Oval.
