The West Indies settled for a competitive draw versus the Australia Prime Minister’s XI as their four-day pink ball match ended in Canberra.
Resuming on 35 without loss in pursuit of 309 with captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul in the wicket, they added only four runs to the overnight score before Brathwaite was bowled for 20. Chanderpaul kept a steady pace to score 56.
A useful 55 from Devon Thomas left the match evenly poised at the dinner break with the visitors on 221 for 5, requiring a further 88 runs for victory off a minimum of 31 overs and they looked on course for the win when Joshua Da Silva and Alzarri Joseph combined for a 48-run seventh-wicket stand. But when Joseph departed followed by Kemar Roach, the score was 273 for 8 and the regional team understandably closed up shop and settled for the draw with Da Silva ending on 52 not out as they closed on 277 for 8.
Chanderpaul was named Player of the Match.
