The West Indies men fell to a crushing 8 wicket defeat at the hands of England in their first Super 8 game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Batting first at Gros Islet in St. Lucia, the Windies were solid in the first 10 overs getting to 82 without loss.
However, although having wickets in hand, the English bowlers executed their offense and restricted the home side to 180 for 4 wickets, when at one stage they were looking at over 200 runs.
Johnson Charles topped scored, with 38 while Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran each got 36.
The defending champs England went through their run chase with precision, batting safely at the top, assessed the conditions well and targeted the weaker Windies bowlers.
Phil Salt was superb getting 87 not out from 47 balls, while Johnny Bairstow had a rapid 48 from 26 balls.
They crossed the line at 181 for 2 from 17.2 overs winning by 8 wickets.
This was the West Indies’ first defeat of the tournament, but they now move on to their second of three super 8 games, clashing with the USA on Friday in Barbados.
