“I’ve reached my max!”
The words of Soca Artiste Kevon ‘Yankey Boy’ Heath as he ended his 14-day hunger strike against dancehall superstar Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer’s Fantastic Friday performance.
“I wanted to finish two days ago but I said no, I have to make 14 days and I push it, and I push it, and I push it and I’m still here to live to tell my story and I’m happy I did. I’m happy I stand up for something as a Trinidadian. I’m happy to stand up for my culture, for the next generation of Soca, and for the youths and for all the middle class and upcoming Soca artists.”
Speaking with TTT News on Thursday, Yankee Boy said he still has hope that the date can change.
“My fingers are still crossed. Hopefully the Government go step in and do the right thing, or the promoters will respect the culture and do the right thing or somebody of power will make the message clear and make them do the right thing.”
He said this entire situation revealed who is in full support of the culture.
“We see who supporting and who is not supporting. Everybody get exposed.”
Vybz Kartel visited Trinidad last Friday to launch his “Str8 Vybz” rum collection. When asked about the controversy surrounding his performance, the dancehall star refused to comment.
